Learning Pastoral Care Overview

KHDA’s DSIB (Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau) 2016-17 Inspection Report rated our Pastoral Care as ‘outstanding’. The British School Organisation (BSO) 2016-17 Inspection Report rated our Pastoral Care as ‘exemplary’. Both DSIB and BSO rated our Positive Education school culture as ‘outstanding’. 
All of us at Sunmarke – our senior leaders, teachers and staff – work tirelessly towards and are fully committed to the personal welfare of your child, and to providing a safe, happy and healthy learning environment.

Tutorial System

Our objective is to ensure the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual development of your child. In Y1 – Y3, the class teacher is entrusted this responsibility and closely monitors your child’s development and provides feedback to parents. In Y4 – Y13, each child is assigned a Personal Tutor who meets the child weekly, sets and reviews with the child his personal goals, and encourages him to stretch his targets and learning.

Education in Human ValuesTM

Our Education in Human ValuesTM programme is aligned with the principles of Positive Education (PosEd) and focuses on developing values which are key to mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Parent Engagement

We listen to and take a time to understand our parents’ requirements and their child’s needs. We have a strong Parent Engagement Programme providing parents the guidance, infrastructure, resources, parenting tips, and support groups to help them participate in their child’s learning and have a voice in the school.

Individual Needs & Learning Support

Our Individual Needs Department ensures every child reaches his full potential providing learning support, in-school and after-school provision support, language support, counseling, and accelerated learning for ‘gifted and talented’ students.

Student Council

We have Primary and Secondary Student Councils where students are elected representatives and have a stakeholder voice debating and discussing school matters like activities, sports, resources, timetables, fund-raising and more which are important to them, and then representing the school in front of the senior leadership team.

School Assemblies

As a Positive Education school, assemblies are held to share good news and nurture achievement and leadership skills, as well as positive emotions and supportive relationships. 
School assemblies are held weekly to recognize academic, sporting and artistic success; reward and recognize exemplary student behavior, and showcase learning achievements and experiences.

House System

The House System is used to reward good behavior and attitude; recognize academic, sporting and artistic achievement; and promote a healthy sense of competition. Houses collect points and compete with each other. Each House is led by a House Captain who leads and motivates his House team. House events take place throughout the year and House meetings termly where students meet to discuss strategy, team selections, events, and have fun.

Health, Safety & Security

Sunmarke, like all Fortes schools, incorporates high health, safety and security standards with a doctor on call, full-time medical nurses on campus, and round-the-clock security guards and security cameras.
